Position Criteria:

  • High school education or equivalent
  • 2 year or 4 year degree in Early Childhood  Educations, preferred
  • 1-2 years of experience in a similar setting

 

Performance Criteria:

  • Building teacher-student relationships.  Meeting individual needs (academically & emotionally), behavior management (prevention, facilitating consequences and teaching appropriate responses)
  • Implementing DHS (Department of Human Services) regulations – cleaning toys and tables, safety precautions (gates, plug covers, safety padding), labeling diapers, lotions, sunscreens and documentation.  
  • Supervising and directing play/activities – guiding and watching play-facilitating & teaching independent & cooperative play.  Changing toys and activities daily & weekly as needed for student engagement.  Evaluating activities for student growth and development
  • Lesson planning and preparing daily and weekly activities.  Making sure planned activities are developmentally and age appropriate.  Researching for new and engaging games, art and other activities – daily books, art, math, reading, fine motor and science.  
  • Diapers, potty and facilitating handwashing as required by DHS. Diapers changed every 2 hours, or as needed.  Potty-training – sending children to bathroom often to avoid accidents, reminders for children to use the bathroom at planned times.  Washing hands – after morning arrival, before and after meals, after diapers/potty, after messy play and after outside play.  
  • Reports for illness, behavior, incidents and daily/weekly iPad app updates (diapers, food, naps – until age 2).  Document sunscreen and lotion applications
  • Personal Care – applying sunscreen before outside play, as required by DHS, administer medication as prescribed by doctor, lotions as needed when supplied by a parent.  Helping & teaching children to put on coats, shoes/boots, gloves/hats, and clothing changes.  
  • Monthly evaluations- inputting daily observations of play and planned activities into a childhood development spreadsheet to be shared with parents.  
  • Building parent relationships – conversations at pick up and drop off about exciting or daily happenings.  Daily and weekly notes, posted outside classroom and on iPad app, proud notices weekly and monthly newsletter planning
  • Conferences – meetings with parents and monthly staff meetings.  Parent-teacher conferences twice a year to relay gathered information about development of academic and social skills.  Meetings as needed or requested to help with behavior or academic concerns
  • Preparing and implementing special occasions – monthly holidays (Halloween, Christmas, Valentine parties) Special mom and dad days.  Presents for holiday, moms and dads.  Taking field trips
